Scouting America said on October 13, 2026 that it has begun a national search for a new chief executive to succeed Roger Krone, who is nearing the end of his tenure at the youth organization.

The Irving, Texas-based group said Krone will stay in the job while the search runs and will help hand off to whoever is chosen. A successor is expected to be named in the spring of 2027, according to the announcement distributed by GlobeNewswire.

The organization's national executive board set up a search committee led by two volunteers tied to the group's governance, with the executive search firm Korn Ferry advising. Scouting America said it would release further details on the committee and the process later, and that the committee will report periodically to the national board.

Krone has run the organization since 2023. Ricky Mason, national chair of Scouting America, said the move had been planned for and called it "a strategic milestone." Krone said he intends to position his successor and the organization for continued success.

Scouting America said nearly 1 million young people take part in its programs, supported by 477,000 adult volunteers across local councils, and that more than 130 million Americans have gone through its programs since its founding.
