Accessibility
The Carnegie Standard should work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or captions.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the site.
What we do
- Photos carry text descriptions, and photo credits are written out as text.
- The site works with a keyboard alone, shows a visible focus outline, and respects your device's reduced-motion setting.
- Text and background colours are chosen for readable contrast, and pages reflow on small screens and when zoomed.
- Stories use real headings, so screen readers can move through them section by section.
- Forms label every field and announce errors and confirmations to screen readers.
- Every event shown on a map is also listed in text, with its address.
- Each release of the site is checked automatically against WCAG 2.2 AA on every type of page, on desktop and phone screens.
Known limits
Some parts of the site come from other services, and we can't fully control how accessible they are: market data from TradingView and embedded social posts. Where a video has captions, they're available in its player.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site doesn't work for you, tell us through our contact page, including the page and what happened. We'll reply and fix what we can.
