General Dynamics said Phebe Novakovic, its long-serving chief executive, will become executive chairman and that company president Danny Deep will take over as chief executive on January 1, 2027, according to a Simply Wall St analysis published by Yahoo Finance.
Deep has spent 25 years at the defense contractor in senior roles, including positions in global operations and combat systems. The analysis described the handoff as continuity rather than a break, and said the change on its own is unlikely to act as a near-term catalyst for the stock.
The transition comes as General Dynamics carries a record backlog of $136.5 billion across submarine, aerospace and technology programs. Its Electric Boat unit builds the Virginia and Columbia class submarines under a multiyear award of about $76.6 billion, alongside roughly $5 billion in shipyard infrastructure work, and the business is tied to demand linked to the AUKUS pact.
The main questions for investors, the analysis said, are whether the company can convert that backlog into steady output without margin erosion, manage the Gulfstream production ramp and avoid repeat problems such as those at its Mesquite munitions operations. Analyst forecasts cited assume annual revenue growth of 4.4%, with earnings rising from $4.5 billion to a consensus $5.7 billion by 2029 on revenue of $62.5 billion.
General Dynamics is scheduled to report earnings on October 30, 2026.
