Higher interest rates are likely to pressure Pfizer's stock more than AbbVie's, according to a Motley Fool commentary published by Yahoo Finance on October 23, 2026.
The piece, written by Eric Volkman, argued that dividend yields are measured against the 10-year Treasury note, whose yield moves with the federal funds target range set by the Federal Reserve. After a series of cuts in 2024 and 2025, the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points in September 2026 in response to persistent inflation, and the commentary said numerous economists and analysts expect further increases.
Pfizer currently yields 5.7%, the piece said, while describing the company as in a reset phase, with several leading products approaching patent expiration that it has sought to offset through acquisitions and expanded development. It said many investors are probably holding the shares for that yield.
AbbVie yields 2.4%, which the commentary attributed partly to the stock's popularity following the rise of Skyrizi and Rinvoq, which have offset the loss of exclusivity for Humira. The author said he is bullish on both stocks but expects Pfizer's turnaround to be slow.
