DoorDash has agreed to acquire Maplebear, the parent company of Instacart, in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at $16 billion, according to a Yahoo Finance report published on October 30, 2026.

Maplebear shareholders can elect to receive $65.00 in cash per share, 0.3372 DoorDash shares, or a combination of $48.75 in cash plus 0.0843 DoorDash shares. The elections are subject to proration, with DoorDash equity capped at 25% of the total consideration and at least 75% of the purchase price paid in cash.

The Instacart brand and its core technology will continue to operate separately from DoorDash's main platform after the deal closes, according to the report. Maplebear works as a technology partner for grocery retailers in the United States and abroad, connecting supermarkets with shoppers through online ordering and delivery tools, and its grocery technology is used across more than 380 e-commerce sites. The company's assets include retail media and ordering products such as Cart Assistant and Clementine.

The transaction requires customary regulatory and shareholder approvals, including antitrust clearance in the United States, Canada and Israel, Hart-Scott-Rodino review, and effectiveness of a Form S-4 registration statement. Closing is anticipated in late 2027 or early 2028.
