Eric Schmidt, the former chief executive of Google, owns roughly 1% of Anthropic going into the artificial intelligence developer's planned initial public offering, Bloomberg reported on October 19, 2026, citing people familiar with the matter.

The position dates to a Series A investment of tens of millions of dollars in 2021, when Anthropic carried a valuation of $461 million, according to PitchBook data cited in the report. Schmidt did not invest on Google's behalf; the money came through his family office, Hillspire, and the investment vehicles TomorrowVentures and Innovation Endeavors. Representatives for Schmidt and Anthropic declined to comment, and it is not known whether he sold any shares in later rounds.

Investors have been discussing an IPO valuation of about $1.5 trillion, down from an earlier target near $2 trillion. Anthropic reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $168 billion, a 45% increase from the prior quarter, a slower pace than the second quarter's more-than-doubling.

Schmidt's net worth stands at $57.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Alphabet separately holds about 14% of Anthropic. Schmidt led Google from 2001 to 2011 and was Alphabet's executive chairman until 2018.
