Anthropic is building an in-house "presidential engagement" program to work with presidential candidates from both parties ahead of the 2028 elections, Fortune reported on October 8, 2026. The effort includes a new Political Programs lead role intended to guide the company's political strategy and run its political giving, according to the job posting Fortune reviewed.
The role calls for educating candidates and their advisers on artificial intelligence policy, preparing Anthropic executives for those conversations, and planning for the parties' nominating conventions, the posting said. Anthropic did not immediately respond to Fortune's request for comment. The hiring comes as Anthropic moves toward a stock listing that could value the company at up to $2 trillion, Fortune reported.
OpenAI is separately hiring a U.S. Congressional Lead, Fortune reported. Bruce F. Freed, president of the Center for Political Accountability, said he had not seen a company formalize engagement through a presidential election committee this way, calling it "an AI company effort aimed at shaping or staving off government regulation or oversight." Anthropic created AnthroPAC in April as its first employee-funded political action committee, letting staff contribute up to $5,000 a year.
