Sergio Gor, the US ambassador to India, said on October 15, 2026 that Reliance is opening the first oil refinery built in the United States in 50 years, speaking at Bloomberg's New Economy Forum.
Gor described Reliance as one of the largest oil refining companies in the world and said the project had not been matched in decades. "That is something that has not happened in many decades," he said, adding that it was happening because of engagement between the two countries.
He also said bilateral trade between the United States and India has risen sharply, according to Bloomberg.
Gor said a secretary would travel to Mumbai for a series of meetings and then to Jamnagar, where Reliance operates, to meet company officials. While in Mumbai, the secretary is expected to meet Indian government officials, including minister S. Jaishankar, whom Gor referred to as Dr. Jaishankar, along with other officials traveling from Delhi.
This story was first reported by Bloomberg.
